What is VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association)?

To hang the TV on the wall, you need to screw-in your TV Wall Stand behind the monitor. This stand attached to your TV with the help of screws fixed to the hole, given back side of your television. The hole is called as VESA (Visual Electronics Standard Associations).

All the TV manufacturer companies used to create VESA holes in each and every TVs, whether its LCD, LED, OLED or others. VESA size helps you to choose the perfect Wall Mount for your television. All TV and computer monitors have slight different VESA hole size. In other words, VESA is a set of standards for the manufacturing of flat screen televisions and PC monitors. Most manufacturers comply with this standard by adhering to an industry-wide “hole pattern” on the back of their displays for mounting purposes. A VESA hole pattern is measured in both horizontal and vertical distance between mounting holes. For example, VESA 100 x 100 means your TV mounting holes are 100 mm apart horizontally and 100 mm apart vertically.

How to measure your TV’s VESA size?

VESA can be measured by self. Only you need a measuring tape and notepad for this.

1. Put your TV on the table, by putting its backside in front of you.
2. Now, go to point A to B vertically and then measure the distance in “mm” with the help of measuring tape, and note it down on your notepad
3. Now repeat the process “2”, for horizontal measurement
4. That’s all. You may get the value from the most used VESA size:-

It was formed in 1988 by monitor and video card manufacturers with the goal of driving standard initiatives and product and market implementations in the field of electronics technology. VESA is well known for the SVGA display standard and the Display Port standard.

The Video Electronics Standards Association aims for the continued growth in technical standards development and was formed by NEC, a leading manufacturer of graphics-related products like monitors, together with eight other video display adapter manufacturers, namely ATI Technologies, Orchid Technology, Genoa Systems, STB Systems, Renaissance GRX, Video 7, Tecmar and Western Digital/Paradise Systems.

The first standard produced by VESA was the 800×600 resolution standard called Super Video Graphics Array (SVGA) to be used in computer displays. Another standard being promoted is Display Port, which is a digital video interface standard meant to supersede the VGA and DVI video interfaces.

Short for Video Electronics Standard Association, VESA is a group of monitor and video card manufacturers that set video display and bus standards. VESA was originally founded by NEC and is most well known for the VL Bus standard.
